Medical Treatment

  3. Permanent total disability – This leaves the employee unable to work in any capacity, and they will never be able to return to their previous role.
  4. Permanent partial disability – This means your employee can return to work, but they will never work at the same capacity as they did before the injury.

Workers’ comp will assist with lost income for staff who are unable to work due to an injury sustained on the job. If an employee has a permanent disability, workers’ comp can give them disability benefits for life. This benefit is different in each state, so make sure you know how disability payments work in yours.

Rehabilitation Benefits

Your injury may entitle you to rehabilitation benefits, but those are twofold. Some injured workers require physical rehabilitation for their injury. You may need physical therapy to improve your range of motion or strengthen your muscles.

However, rehabilitation benefits include vocational rehab, as well. The nature of your injury may prevent you from resuming the exact duties you did before. At that point, the workers’ compensation system in your state may provide vocational rehabilitation benefits such as retraining, tuition or tuition reimbursement if you want to return to school, an evaluation to determine what you can do, and other resources that can help you to return to work in a different space.

Death and Funeral Services Benefits

Unfortunately, workplace injuries sometimes cause death. In the event an employee loses their life because of a work-related injury or illness, workers’ comp can provide benefits to their family and beneficiaries. These benefits can help them cover funeral expenses and lost income. Most coverage plans have a limit for these expenses, which varies by state. Your insurance company can deny expenses if they find they’re extravagant or unnecessary.
In most cases, workers’ compensation benefits go to immediate family members or dependents living with your deceased employee, like their:
